Hello, my name is Anthony D’Amico, and I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I was born in and grew up near the Heights section of Jersey City, NJ. Along with my brother, we were raised by a single mother from the ages of approximately 2 and a half to about 14. Growing up in such an area has definitely afforded me the chance to experience many cultures of the world, not to mention my American-Italian background. My mother always instilled in us a sense of dignity and pride in where we come from and how to respect others around us. She continued to teach us, always by example, to be kind and courteous to all because we don’t know the struggles of those around us. I am currently the treasurer on the board for Evolution of the Butterflies.
About Me
Please allow me to explain what being part of Evolution of the Butterflies means to me. One of
our many goals will be to become an outreach center for those who become victims of domestic
violence. We will do our very best to bring together communities of supporters, fellow survivors, and
those currently going through these difficult times, and try to uplift them to a place where they may be able to start fresh in a new environment. An environment free of the stereotypes that may be placed on those who fall victim to the very people they may have trusted. As a child, I grew up with my aunt and cousins living on the second floor, and this is where I witnessed some events that have stayed with me all these years. At the time, when I was maybe 7 or 8, my aunt’s now ex-husband abused her constantly. Eventually, family members were contacted to forcibly remove the abuser from the house and he never returned. Another event that stands out in my memory is when a very good friend lost her best friend. Her life was taken by someone she loved. My best friend’s friend will be cherished in our memory forever and we want to honor her name as we fight against domestic violence. Domestic violence affects many women, men, and children around the world. Our organization will afford them the opportunity to get help via counseling or possibly a means to escape their arrangements in hopes of a better safer life. Evolution of the Butterflies will represent a change, as does the caterpillar, people will have a chance for the same. I hope to connect communities together to educate, assist, and grow as one, protecting each other. I am very proud to be part of a movement such as ours because of my experiences. They have helped me to understand the importance of others in their time of need.
